She goes back to the sent folder about once a week, and she has been doing it for three years.
It is one message. She knows exactly where it is, and she knows the date, and she could tell you the first line without looking. It went. There is no doubt about that. It is in the sent folder, which is the folder that exists specifically to tell you that a thing has gone, and there is a reply underneath it, and the reply is warm and it is short and it says the matter is finished.
She reads the reply too. Every time. That is the part.
If you asked her what she is checking for she would find it hard to answer, because the check is not really about the message any more. What she is doing, once a week, is looking for something in the wording of the reply that would tell her it counted. Some density of assurance that would finally hold. And every week the reply says the same warm, short, finished thing, and every week it does not hold, and by Thursday she is back in the folder.
Three years of that.
Now this is about a message, but you know it is not about a message. She has done the same thing with God about a thousand times.
She brought it. She remembers bringing it, and she remembers what she felt, which was mostly relief and slightly frightening. And then two weeks later something reminded her of it, and she brought it again, in case the first time had not been thorough enough, and then bringing it again became a habit, and now she cannot let a month pass without going over it once more, because not going over it feels like presuming.
And here is the thing that would make you sad if you saw it from outside. Each time she brings it, she is treating the last time as insufficient. Not consciously. But the act of bringing it back says, in a way words do not, that she did not believe the answer she got.
That is you in the folder.
You've been rereading something that was settled a long time ago, looking for the assurance to be worded more strongly. And every time you go back you are quietly assuming that the last time did not take, which means the going back cannot ever end, because there is no reply strong enough to satisfy a question that is really about whether you are allowed to stop asking.

No more remembrance is God's phrase, not a slogan
Hebrews quotes God quoting Himself, which is worth noticing, and the sentence He chooses to repeat is this one.
And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.Hebrews 10:17
No more. Not less often. Not more mildly. No more, which is a full stop and not a fading.
Now hold that against a weekly reread. If God has said He will not bring a matter to mind, then every time you bring it to Him for reprocessing you are opening a file on His desk that He has already closed, and He is not reading it with you, because He has said He will not.
You are dealing with a God who has stated in advance that this is not coming back up, and I am not making that comfortable at the expense of accuracy: Hebrews 10:17 is His own wording, and it is the Holy Spirit rather than my reading of it who can make it stick where three years of rereading has not.
Here is a thing worth knowing about the word remember in Scripture, because it prevents a misunderstanding that trips people up. It does not mean recall in the sense of information retrieval. God is not claiming to have misplaced anything. Biblical remembering is always about acting on something: when God remembers Noah, He acts for Noah. So remember no more means He will never again act toward you on the basis of that matter. It is not amnesia. It is a settled policy, which is a great deal stronger.
You have a settled policy standing over you rather than a mood that might turn, and a policy does not need checking weekly, which is written into that verse rather than being my hope for you, with the Spirit of God able to close a folder that habit has kept open.
I want to be careful about one thing, because a person could hear this as a scolding and this category exists to undo scolding. Nobody is telling you off for going back. The going back is not a sin and it never was. It is what an anxious person does when they have been given something too good to hold in one hand, and it comes from wanting it to be true rather than from doubting that God is good.
But it is costing you, and the cost is the point. Three years of Thursdays.
This is finished, and it was finished the first time, and nothing you have done since has been holding it up, because Hebrews 10 puts the remembering no more in God's own mouth, and the Holy Spirit is the one carrying it into a morning where the laptop is still open.
Close the folder.
Not because the matter was small, and not because your care about it was excessive. Close it because the One you sent it to has said, in His own words, that He will not bring it up again, and there is no version of that sentence that requires a weekly confirmation.
You have been looking for a reply worded strongly enough to end the question. Here is the strongest wording available: their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. That is not a reassurance offered by a friend. It is a policy stated by the only party who could ever have raised the matter.
You are free to stop checking, and the freedom is not presumption, it is agreement with what He already said, because Hebrews 10:17 is the sentence itself, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes it hold rather than the number of times you read it.
There is nothing to check on Thursday. There has not been for three years.
Declare this over yourself
Say them out loud, in whatever voice this morning has left you. The standing to say them is not something you work up to and it is not on loan from a good week: Christ is in you, and the authority in these words belongs to Him and has been given to you in Scripture, made living by the Holy Spirit rather than by how certain you feel. Jesus put the faith required at a mustard seed, which is His way of setting it under the line where anybody would trouble to measure, and then He said the part that carries: speak to the mountain. The mountain here is not the matter itself. It is the rereading. Speak to that. What He does with everything else He does in His own way, and the unclenching is yours to do this morning.
- Rereading I keep doing, you are not required, and in the name of Jesus I close the folder. Scripture says God remembers my sins no more, and there is no reply He could word more finally than the one He has already sent.
- Fear that the first time did not take, you have had three years of Thursdays out of me and you are getting no more of them. Scripture says the remembering is a settled policy rather than a mood, so there is nothing here for you to have me confirm again.
- Lord God, You have said You will not bring this up, and I am taking You at Your word this morning with both hands open and nothing to check. I thank You, because Your Holy Spirit did the settling and Your word said no more remembrance, and I am received in the agreeing and not at the end of another read through.
